My reason for posting is the same as Aqilah, so here it is =) :

In fact, the things taught in today's lesson is almost the same as that of Aqilah's, (for example, the importance of understanding the question and breaking it down to know what it wants and what are the keywords.)

The key things that the question on the first page of our reading ( ie. What, after all, is Globalization?) want is the characteristics and processes of Globalization. The characteristic is that Globalization is about things being interconnected such that anything that happened will reach other places and become more widespread.

Mr. Heah also covered consumption as well as the 4 factors of production: land, labour, capital and enterprise. He also mentioned that goods, people and ideas are things that can move more easily through the progress of Globalization.

However, i feel that the most important thing he raised was that we should study together as well as help and guide each other to strive for our common goal- to do well in Geography!! =)

Aqilah's

I know that according to the schedule, I'm suppose to update this blog like weeks ahead. However, after today's geog consultation or something more like a meeting, I'm told to do my reflections today, so yah here I am updating.

Well, today's geog meeting is focussed, considering that there's only a small group of us. Basically, globalisation is the process of being more interconnected due to increasing accessibility. This particular point has been mentioned in the previous lesson. It can be categorised into three broad themes which are characteristics, processes and effects.

From today, Mr Heah emphasized on the importance to work in a group so that we can share our point of views of a certain issue and discuss about it. For example, the point of advancement of technology, one can categorize it as a characteristic while another can categorize as a process. As we share our opinions, it can therefore be concluded that it can be classified under both points. Furthermore, we can clarify the clarity of the points that we made by making sure that others can understand it.

This comes to second point which is extracting the core ideas of a particular text to answer a question. We can be making a point, however it may not answer the question, therefore the point is invalid. In this case, we're supposed to analyse the questions and from there, we have to organise our answers accrodingly. Therefore we can ensure that the answer has a link to the question. In all, to answer a question, it can't solely based on data, information or knowledge. we have to understand the questions to fully comprehend what it requires.

Jingwen's Geog Lesson Reflection

"What's so special about Globalization?"

Today, we touched on the overall view of Globalization (like it is a process of being connected) and divided it into three sub-categories, ie. political, social-cultural and economics. During the lesson, I learnt that we must exemplify what we had taken in by using examples to show that our ideas are clear. Most importantly, I realise that the best way to grasp and understand something is by looking at it from different perspectives and then forming your own understanding on it, like looking at Globalization from the History, Economics and Geography viewpoint.

By the way, here's a quick link for those who want to watch the video "Shift Happens":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emx92kBKads

Jieying's Geog Reflection.

Today for geog lesson, we had to do a presentation on the concepts that are key to spatial analysis. I realised that previous methods used when presenting did not really work as it was still hard to understand what the concepts meant even after presentation. I found out that memorising or highlighting out the definitions in the information given did not really help in making me understand. However, there was a big difference when we picked out the core ideas instead. For example, to understand distance, phrases like 'how near' or 'how far' made it much easier to understand. In this way, we would not necessarily need to memorise definitons in order to understand the concepts.

Jieying.

Roster

Dear girls,

Start: Tuesday, 24th Feb 2009

Wan Jia (Completed)
Jie Ying
Jing Wen
Maetzy
Hilda
Nerine
Aqilah
Revathi

Please post your reflection on the night of every Human Geography lesson.
Latest by the next day.
This arrangement will be repeated from start (Wan Jia) every time it ends with Revathi.
It will also help if you give your classmate a reminder if she has to do her reflection.
Moreover, as Mr Heah mentioned, every reflection must have at least 5 comments.
Therefore, I urge all of you to take initiative and comment on your classmates' reflections.

Lastly, hope all of us will be able to cooperate well and be more participative during lessons :D

Nerine
Apart frm that, i would say that being able to link ideas and concepts together is the crucial part of learning. This would mean that we can really save time doing less important and time-consuming things like memorising given facts. Moreover, I found that getting into groups to discuss and gather relevant ideas is really more efficient and fast. Lastly, what I feel is that memorising the content has been what I have been doing for the past 4 years but I will certainly try to make some changes to such a learning method.

NJC H1 Geography

Hey!
This blog has been set up for us to voice out our reflections after each Geog lesson.
By this Sunday, I'll also post a schedule so that you will know when you're required to post your reflection.
